The goal of the Control of Material Properties through Advanced StructureS (COMPASS) program is to leverage advanced fabrication capabilities, coupled with design of material structure, to drive functional material performance beyond the state of the art. By controlling material structure at the scale of fundamental interactions through engineered interfaces, gradients, and nanoscale dispersions, COMPASS will harness fabrication improvements to drive peak material performance. The program seeks advanced, designed functionality in thermoelectric materials for extreme temperature operation for heat scavenging and cooling as well as advanced studies to deliver enhanced capabilities.
